About

Tanya Cubric (b.1991, Tiohtià:ke/Montréal) is a multidisciplinary artist of Balkan Heritage working in performance, video and installation. She was raised between the UK and Serbia, studying in France and Australia and is currently based in Naarm/Melbourne.

Her practice is entangled in her transnational upbringing, exploring how social contexts shape the psychological narratives we build about our lives as well as our experiences of power and otherness. Drawing on her theatre and film background, her practice employs satirical characters, improvised performances, ready-made materials, video, and sound. She uses fantasy and play as a form of resistance to re-narrativise oppressive societal stereotypes.

Recent achievements: Arts Council UK DYCP fund (2020-2021); Tropical Lab Artist Residency in Singapore (2023); RMIT Mary Oliphant Graduate Award (2024). Tanya is currently an ACMI X + RMIT Graduate Artist in Residence (2025-2026) and has an upcoming show at First Draft Gallery in Eora/Sydney 2025.
